Planet Dog Foundation PSA Wins Maine 7DAYPSA Contest

National Competition Brings Filmmakers and Non-Profit Organizations Together

The Planet Dog Foundation (PDF), Planet Dog's non-profit, is thrilled to announce that the PSA made about their grantmaking organization has won the Maine 7 Day PSA Contest. Team Hurf Durf, the winning filmmakers, was awarded a cash prize for their work and the PSA will run on Maine-based TV stations for a full year.   Portland, Maine was the second stop of the National 7DAYPSA competition which begun in Rhode Island and is headed to cities across the nation. The competition is the brainchild of Duncan Putney and Andre Stark, of OCD Associates in Providence, RI. It was created to draw attention to nonprofit organizations and filmmakers by bringing them together to provide deserving organizations a broadcast quality PSA along with a commitment from local media outlets to air it.  Filmmakers are given seven days to write, cast, direct and edit a public service announcement for a local non-profit. The Hurf Durf team that won top prize for the Planet Dog Foundation PSA, was led by director Tim Lazimov. Team Hurf Durf also received awards for best editing, best animation and best director. We Did It!

Thanks to our loyal retailers and consumers, we reached the goal of our 2010 Romp-a-Thon by selling over 20,000 Orbee-Tuff® Glow for Good Balls last year. Our Romp-a-Thon was a national fundraising campaign to raise awareness about canine service and to raise funds to enable dogs to help more people in need. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of every Glow for Good Ball are donated to our non-profit arm, the Planet Dog Foundation (PDF), to provide cash grants to programs throughout the country that train, place, and support service dogs.

The fundraising campaign took place at retailers that sell Planet Dog products across the country, and consumers also supported the challenge by purchasing Glow for Good Balls through www.planetdog.com and other online retail outlets. Moochie & Co., a retailer with stores in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, embraced and won the challenge by selling the most Glow for Good Balls. They will receive a custom run of 100 FREE, Orbee-Tuff "2010 Romp-a-Thon Winner Balls" with their logo featured on them. By purchasing the most Glow for Good Balls through their stores, their customers also earned them the opportunity to help the Planet Dog Foundation select a canine service organization to be the recipient of a Romp-a-Thon grant, to be announced in March. Whole Earth Provisions, a retailer based in Texas, and Elite Dogtique, a retailer based in King of Prussia, PA received Runner-Up and Honorable Mention awards for their enthusiastic participation.

Many thanks to all of our customers and partners for helping us to spread the woof and help dogs helping people in need.
