Planet Dog Foundation Tribute Program

We are proud to offer our most meaningful giving program called the PDF Tribute Program, a fun way to donate to the Planet Dog Foundation to honor or celebrate your four-legged best friend or the best friend of your loved ones.

Our pets touch our lives in so many ways, and this program is designed to celebrate our love and passion for all pets. The PDF Tribute Program is a way to donate in memory of or in celebration of a special pet that has touched your life. For instance, did your dog recently give back to someone in need? Do you have a wonderful story to tell about rescuing a pet from a shelter? Is it your pet’s birthday? Did your dog recently have a litter? We want to hear about it! Along with your donation, send photos and your story, and we will post them on this site.

Your donation will go directly to our grantmaking program in order to help animals help people. Please read more about the grant program your donation will support.

If you are interested in donating, you can print out the Donation Form and mail to:

Tribute to Our Best Friends

In loving memory of Officer Spike

Spike

Spike lived from Feb 7, 1994 until Jan 19, 2008. Spike was a Portland Police dog from July 1996 until his retirement in July 2001. Prior to his retirement he was described as the "best police dog in the State".

During Spikes career he was directly responsible for the apprehension of numerous criminals to included murders, robbers and burglars. Spike was instrumental in the location of thousand of dollars worth of illegal narcotics and other items of evidence.

Spike enjoyed showing the skills of a police dog off. Spike preformed during dozens of K-9 demonstrations over the course of his career. The demonstrations provided the public with a view of skills a police dog possesses.

In 1999 Spike was the inaugural Iron Dog champion in the Maine Criminal Justice Academy's Iron Dog obstacle course competition. The course challenged all the skills required of a police dog. Spike finished first out of 22 teams.

When Spike was not working he was every bit a member of my family.
Spike loved playing ball, Sebago Lake and running on Baxter Blvd. He
is very much missed!

In loving memory of Lexie

Lexie1 Lexie2

Lexie was an outstanding dog! She was a loyal companion who provided many of us with years and years of laughter, love, and friendship.  I would like us all to think of Lexie with a smile.  She is no longer in pain and is with Katie Doodle, chasing soccer balls, swimming in the ocean,  and eating lots and lots of treats.

Marnie & Louis

(Hurricane) Aili

March 16, 1997 - July 5, 2007

Aili

Aili1 Aili2

You came into our life at eight weeks old and you were the first present I ever bought for Andrea.  I'll never forget the way you howled in my ear as I held you and drove you away from your brothers and sisters to deliver you to Andrea for her eighteenth birthday. You gave us both 10 years and 5 months of every possible emotion- most of all happiness.

Your list of credentials grew every day:
- Mountain biking partner ( Bar Harbor, Acadia, Evergreen to name a few)
- Roller blading partner
- Couch and bed warmer (you loved your furniture and never met a floor you'd even consider laying on)
- Amazing car rider (three trips to and/or from Dallas)
- Great Hiker (Tumbledown, New Mexico, Acadia, Gulf Hagus)
- Escape Artist (no matter what barricades, leashes, seatbelts, etc.)
- Dog trainer and great big sister (you have set the bar for our future dogs to achieve, without you, Lucy would've never turned out to be the good dog she has become)
- No leash necessary (every dog owner should be so lucky)
- Facial expressions (We've never seen a dog smile- but you literally smiled every time we came home)
- Snob-like abilities (you could act very stuck up toward some people, and for some reason I liked it)
- Gentle Giant (you were the softest and nicest dog to all kids)
- Best ears (your velvety soft ears flapping in the wind were unforgettable)
- So many more but easily summed up by this credential "Best Dog Evah"

Broken Hearted~  Mike, Andrea and Lucy

In Loving Memory of Bailey O'Reilly Potter

Bailey

In loving memory of my beloved Bailey O’Reilly Potter……….There are no words that I can say to describe the most incredible not only dog but friend….Taken away far too early but, you gave me three and a half of the most incredible years that a person could have ever known. While your passing still devastates me, I go forward knowing that you are still by my side. The long walks, playing in the snow, stealing the kids' hats and gloves, swimming in the ocean or our trips to the lake, walks thru the woods, watching the fireworks, sitting on the beach watching people or watching you play, you made everything memorable and priceless. Pushing me out of bed so you could get comfortable, the 4 am wakeups, and the nose in my face in the morning with big sighs….Oh how they are missed. I miss your personality, your loyalty and unconditional love that you gave all of us. You made our days better when they were bad, made us smile when we were sad or mad. You are my protector, my friend, and a very important part of my life and you will always be with me and watching over us and your sister.

Rest in peace our angel………Thank you Planet Dog for all you do for all our four legged friends

We will love you always
Dad,Mom,Josee,Chase,Abby

Hobbs

Hobbs

We all miss you, Hobbs! Hope that life up in Boothbay Harbor is one long walk on the beach! We love you!

In memory of Casey

Casey

I have made this gift in honor and remembrance of my best furry friend on our birthdays. Casey, our black lab, brought so much joy, love, and laughs to so many people's lives, especially mine. He was so strong and full of love and is greatly missed, but forever in our hearts. With love to Casey, from Julia.

The Lady Jessica and Roxy

Jess & Rox

Pictured on the left is The Lady Jessica who passed in 2005. We shared 16 wonderful years together. Jessie, to her friends, was a stray when we found each other under the Manhattan Bridge. She was affectionately known as a Brooklyn Terrier ... AKA a Mutt :-) and we were virtually inseparable. She was the constant in a life full of change. She was a true companion and a bridge that spanned troubled water. Jessie was loyal and loving. She had inner peace, strength of character and was remarkably intelligent. Her passing shakes my foundation and I am saddened beyond belief. There's no doubt though that we were so very, very fortunate to have shared life together.

Pictured on the right is Roxy who passed in 2003. Jessie and Roxy were best friends. When Roxy's mom became too ill to care for her Roxy was happily welcomed into our home and quickly became part of the family. She often provided the comic relief and was the kind of dog that just made people grin when they saw her. She was a sweet girl and will be missed. This tribute honors the memory of both Jessie and Roxy.

Bella

Bella Bella

We will all miss Bella’s beauty and independent spirit and her never ending desire to retrieve a stick, a rock or a seashell. No matter what the season, Bella was always ready to venture into the woods, the surf, through the snow, or out for a sail.

She never lost her excitement for going to the beach and could sense the water long before it came into view. Already a well traveled companion, last year she had the adventure of a lifetime, sailing from Connecticut to the Bahamas and back, for nearly a year with her Mom & Dad. The crew came home tan, relaxed, and she with her beautiful black hair, highlighted by the tropical sun. Oh, the stories she could tell…

Bella always welcomed any person, family or dog into her home and was a friend to all. Her stature and beautiful coat always stood out in a crowd and she was happy to play with anyone; nothing fancy, just sticks, and rocks, acorns in the fall and a snowball in winter.

Slopping her water bowl; sliding open the back door; running upstairs after dinner; or chasing the ‘mystery’ behind the garage; she made you smile.

Thank you Bella for being such a good friend, giving us many happy memories and years of warm companionship.

Tiger

Tiger

Tiger was the ultimate kitty. He lived 10 wonderful, loving, and peaceful years. He was always around to speak to us, jump on our lap, and wait patiently for hugs. He was a talker, and communicated with amazing grace his needs and desires. He defended his cat siblings whenever they faced perilous times, and was around when they wanted to cuddle with him. He knew how to do that very well. Tiger will be missed, but never forgotten.

Sweet Bailey

Bailey

She was affectionately known by many names….Beagella Bagella Boo, Bagel Lumpner, Bailey Bumper, Bumper Nickel, and our “20 pound barkless wonder.” In our hearts, she was, is, and always will be our sweet little Bailey girl. Bailey came into our lives in October of 1984. She was a half-starved pup/dog - so thin and disproportionate that it was hard to determine what kind of dog she was - she looked like part Beagle, part Terrier, part Dachshund, and maybe even part otter! This little dog soon blossomed into the best, most beautiful little dog ever! On October 8, 1998, Bailey passed away after suffering from Chronic Mitral Valve Insufficiency and Diabetes for the last 18 months of her life. Her will to live and strength to hold on was and is an inspiration to us all. Just as when Bailey “told” us it was time, if you’re ever faced with making a decision regarding the wellbeing of your pet, open your heart and listen to what your pet wants – I honestly believe that they will “help” with the decision. If you’ve lost a beloved animal companion and folks tell you to “let go,” I urge you to hold on – hold on to the memories, cherish them, and grow from them. Our animals have so much to share, so much to teach us, in life and in death; and they do it, not through regimented training sessions, but through unconditional love, trust, and joy. That is the most important lesson of all. Finally, thanks to my dear daughter and son-in-law for giving me the most special birthday gift I have ever received - a donation to the Tribute Program in memory of our beloved Bailey. That donation will not only help other animals but it is also, as my daughter so appropriately wrote on my birthday card, “a wonderfully, touching way to keep sweet Bailey’s memory alive.”

In loving memory of Jack Kurz

Jack

This tribute is in loving memory of Jack Kurz, beloved yellow lab and best friend to Kendall Kurz. A mischievous dog with a heart of gold, Jack was one of the original Planet Dog product testers. He was the inspiration behind the award-winning Planet Dog locking stainless steel garbage can. Thanks Jack!

Jack lived a long, wonderful life with his mom Kendall and sibling Max in Portland, Maine. He enjoyed long romps on the beach and in the woods and always tried to seize the opportunity to wander off if his mom wasn't looking. Jack brought love, joy and humor to all those who met him, and he will be truly missed but certainly not forgotten.

In loving memory of Elvis and Oliver

Elvis- Jim and Cindy's Border Collie:
Elvis was a rescued dog that Jim and Cindy made a part of their family. It was a good match and Elvis turned out to be a great dog. He was friendly and smart and they provided him with a happy home and a good like. Elvis especially loved Jim and followed him everywhere. One of his favorite activities was going running with Jim. He made everyone laugh with his imitation Elvis "sneer" and was smart enough to get around the no-jumping-on-people rule by standing up on his hind legs as close as he could get to a person without really touching them. We miss Elvis too, but are glad we knew him and happy he had a loving family and a very good life with Jim and Cindy.

Oliver- Neta's small poodle:
Neta rescued Oliver after a family relinquished him for selfish reasons. He was quite old when he came to live with Neta, but that didn't matter to her. She adored that little dog and in return he was devoted to her. While he loved attention from everyone, his focus was always on Neta. At home he followed her everywhere. He also loved going places and she took him with her as much as she could. When he would visit us, his favorite pastime was chasing Maggie, our Wheaten Terrier. That was a funny sight -- he probably weighed less than ten pounds and Maggie weighs about 35 pounds, but that never stopped him. Oliver was part of our lives and we miss him a great deal.

Thank you for acknowledging some of our favorite pets. We appreciate the work you do in support of the well being of animals.

Peace,
Kevin Davenport & Mary McKane

In loving memory of Clark

My good friend, Kent lost his yellow lab, Clark to cancer. Clark was a member of the canine corps at Safe Sea Rescue Association in Wickford, RI. He would accompany Captain Kent on all his rescue missions on the safe sea tugboat. Clark spent his last year suffering from cancer but even at his worst moments he still could be found at the bow of the Safe Sea tugboat. It of course has been hard for Kent without his companion and therefore, I would like to honor Kent's best friend with this tribute.
